High School Equivalency Diploma AHSED/GED program outline:
Purpose: To provide the opportunity for at risk students and underserved adult drop out students the chance to earn a high school equivalency diploma (AHSED) through self-study and EHS course competency equivalency examinations in a matter of weeks.
Excel High School believes that everyone should have access to a high school diploma; and so we now offer our accredited (AHSED) program online. It is possible to earn your accredited high school diploma in a matter of weeks.
A high school equivalency diploma, or (AHSED), is a minimum requirement for most jobs today; for all branches of the military, many State university systems and a growing number of employers, the GED certificate is not the same as a high school diploma or (AHSED).
Please read our FAQ page for more information.
The online (AHSED) program consists of the following:
EHS will measure core competencies in the areas listed (a-f) and complete (g & h) (career path counseling and awareness and life management skills). Completing and passing a timed, online examination consisting of the following subject areas:
(a) Mathematics
(b) Social Studies
(c) Science
(d) English
(e) Literature
(f) Writing Essay 250 word minimum on selected topic(s).
These exams are very similar to the GED, but are taken from any location, online.
Each student must also complete the following two modules of the preparation course:
(g) Career-Awareness Counseling (Click Here)
(h) Life Management Skills
Once the candidate makes application for the (AHSED) program at Excel High School, the student will be given an online pre-test to measure competency level. If the student scores well enough on their initial pre-test, they will be able to take the online (AHSED) final test. When the candidate passes the (AHSED) final test with a score of 75% or better, in each subject area and completes modules: Career-Awareness Counseling and Life Management Skills, the candidate has completed the program and will be eligible to receive a high school diploma. If after taking the pre-test the student does not qualify to move onto the (AHSED) final test, the student will be able to enroll in the EHS AHSED/GED Tutoring Center and create for themselves a self-paced course of study. When they feel they are ready, they can then take the exams over and move on to the final AHSED exams. In this case, the program can still be completed very quickly.
The student’s ability to pass the (AHSED) final test, complete the program and receive their high school diploma will depend upon how frequently the student participates in the program. Some students that are very motivated will be able to complete the program in as little as 2-6 weeks; but some students take up to 3-months or longer to finish the program and receive their accredited high school diploma. Students must complete this program within 6-months. A 6-month extension can be granted in certain cases for students that require more study and preparation time. We feel most students, on average, should be able to complete the (AHSED) program in 3-months time; from start to finish.
When a student completes the Excel High School (AHSED) program, the student will be a high school graduate and will be able to use their (AHSED) for employment and continuing education purposes. *restrictions may apply
